This volume presents two related texts of the Gospel of
Nicodemus from the little known Central European tradition: a late
medieval Polish translation of the apocryphon from the
codex of Laurentius of Lask and its Latin model as preserved in
Kraków, Biblioteka Jagiellonska MS 1509. Both Latin and
Polish versions are remarkable as they retain several archaic
features attested in the earliest witnesses of the
apocryphon but lost in the mainstream medieval
traditions.
The book begins with and introduction presenting the Latin and
Polish traditions as well as the characteristics of the manuscripts
edited in the volume. The edition itself is in fact a four-column
synopsis displaying side by side the transliteration, the
translation, and the transcription of the Polish Ewangelia
Nikodema and the edition of the Latin Evangelium
Nicodemi. For each text a concordance as well as lists of
forms and frequencies have been added. Polish-Latin and Latin
Polish glossaries of all words and expressions used in the text
complete this second Instrumenta volume.

This first volume of the
Instrumenta series attached to the volumes 11 and 12 of
Corpus Christianorum. Series Apocryphorum, consists in its
main part of the concordance, i.e. the alphabetical list of all forms
presented in their immediate context. For the sake of convenience, the
text of the reference edition is given subsequently to the concordance.
Various lists - of lemmas, forms, proper nouns, frequencies - as well
as possible remarks or commentaries close the volume.

Outre une introduction, le premier volume contient l'édition et la traduction française synoptiques des deux principaux manuscrits dans lesquels nous sont parvenus en grec les Actes de Philippe. Ces deux manuscrits sont les témoins de deux formes différentes du texte. La forme longue, jusqu'ici inédite, est représentée par le Xenophontos 32, découvert au Mont Athos en 1974 par François Bovon et Bertrand Bouvier; elle est ici éditée, traduite et annotée par leurs soins. La forme courte, publiée par Maximilien Bonnet, est ici éditée et, pour la première fois, traduite en français par les soins de Frédéric Amsler. Le deuxième volume est l'oeuvre de Frédéric Amsler et il fournit un commentaire des Actes de Philippe sous leurs deux formes, à l'exception du Martyre qui sera commenté dans le volume III. Sur la base d'une comparaison synoptique, le commentaire met en évidence quelques-uns des présupposés doctrinaux qui ont présidé à l'élaboration de la forme courte du texte; pour chaque Acte, il propose une reconstitution de la forme primitive du récit. Dans cette perspective, il s'applique à montrer le caractère composite de l'oeuvre. Il prête attention aux realia, aux données géographiques et propose une insertion historique de chacun des documents regroupés sous le titre d'Actes de Philippe. Il examine enfin la relation du texte aux Ecritures canoniques et à d'autres apocryphes chrétiens.
